Jayme L. Walker represents plaintiffs in a wide array of cases ranging from employment issues, sexual harassment and assault, negligent supervision in schools, catastrophic personal injuries and wrongful deaths, and civil rights abuses. She specializes in fighting for fair treatment in the workplace, holding government accountable for civil rights abuses and police misconduct, wrongful death and injuries caused by defective products, and representing victims of sexual violence at work or in school. She has successfully tried cases to verdict in both state and federal court and recovered millions of dollars for her clients in settlements. Ms. Walker is part of a team at Gwilliam, Ivary, Chiosso, Cavalli & Brewer that has been named by the Recorder as one of the Top 10 Leading Plaintiffs Bay Area Employment Law Groups. Ms. Walker is actively involved in plaintiffs and consumer rights advocacy groups, including the Consumer Attorneys of California, American Association for Justice, Public Justice, California Employment Lawyers Association and was the 2021 President of the Alameda Contra Costa County Trial Lawyers Association and the 2023 Member of the Year for the Alameda Contra Costa County Trial Lawyers Association. Notable Cases

Estate of Frank Carson, Georgia Defilippo, Christina Defilippo and Eduardo Quintanar v. County of Stanislaus et al.

$12 million settlement in case where police officers, district attorneys and investigators wrongfully and maliciously accused a criminal defense attorney and his family as well as CHP Officer Quintanar and four others of being involved in the disappearance and murder of a local petty thief in retaliation for accusing the Defendants of corruption and embarrassing them with high profile wins in the courtroom. Total case settlement for all plaintiffs was $22.5 million.

I.G. v. County of Contra Costa

$499,000 pre-litigation settlement involving public health nurse who blew the whistle on fraudulent healthcare practices that resulted in people of vulnerable populations not getting care they were entitled to resulting in negative and dangerous health outcomes. Resulted in press coverage and audit by the State of California and changes in the program to help low-income families in Contra Costa County. Plaintiff and Reporter on the case were awarded the Society of Professional Journalists James Madison Award for Whistleblowers.

Whitney v. City of Vallejo

$900,000 settlement for police captain who blew the whistle on Vallejo Police Department’s badge bending scandal. Police officers were bending their badges to commemorate shooting civilians. When Whitney tried to put a stop to it and report it, he was fired from the police department.

Nurses v. Healthcare Institution

$2.3 million settlement on behalf of nurses wrongfully terminated for patient safety complaints and race discrimination.

Bauer v. City of Pleasanton, 2021, $5.9 million settlement for the wrongful death of Jacob Bauer due to excessive force by Pleasanton police officers. Mr. Bauer was a mentally ill man who was restrained in a prone position by police which caused him to asphyxiate. The settlement resulted in both monetary compensation for the family and a seat at the table with the Chief of Police to discuss reforms to how the Department dealt with the mentally ill.

Doe v. Berkeley Unified School District, 2022, Represented a young woman sexually assaulted by a classmate.  Case resulted in significant settlement and walkouts by Berkeley High Students which led to significant reforms with how Berkeley High School dealt with peer sexual harassment.

Morse v. County of Merced; Trial 2018, Eastern District of California, Judge Dale Drozd — $526,649 jury verdict for a 19-year-old wrongfully arrested and accused of involvement in a gang murder. The jury awarded Plaintiff Morse $498,300 against the County and punitive damages against two individual police officer defendants. While a motion for attorneys’ fees was pending, the case settled for $1.75 million.
Jane Doe v. City of Brentwood, Represented a police officer that accused her supervisor of sexually assaulting her. Case settled for $1 million.
Allmed Systems v. Healthtronics, Inc., Trial 2011, Alameda County Superior Court, Judge Robert McGuiness, Ms. Walker was co-trial counsel with J. Gary Gwilliam in a trial where the firm represented a small business owner against a major company in a contract dispute. The trial resulted in a verdict of over $11 million for the plaintiff.
Represented a former police department attorney in a whistleblower lawsuit against the City and County of San Francisco and Chief of Police Greg Suhr. The case settled for $725,000.00 after pretrial motions and just before jury selection.
Ms. Walker, along with Steven R. Cavalli, represented a family whose husband and father was killed in a bicycle accident due to roadway conditions in Oakland. The result was a $2 million settlement.
